Customer ReviewsReally a pleasant surprise.I am a big fan of all things cordless, and so I thought I might try acordless joystick. My reference point has been 5 faithful years ofservice from a Microsoft Sidewinder Pro.The Logitech installedeasily in WinXP. I ran the included CD, plugged the tiny USB transmitterinto an open USB (2.0) port on the back of my PC, and then installedthe batteries (3 AAs) into the stick itself. Synchronization took 5seconds; I pressed the button on the front of the transmitter box andthen a (any) button on the stick, and it was done. I used the softwareto calibrate in 2 minutes and was ready to fly.Flying in MS FS2002 was very good with this stick. The 10 buttons on the stick are a snap to program with the software.Inmy other flight sim, Fighter Ace 3.5, it wasn't as smooth a result.
Thekinds of ACMs required by a combat sim are necessarily more precise andI've just had a difficult time getting the right amount of damping.Maybe I'll get the hang of it as time passes, but for now my kill ratiohas crashed. The stick itself is well built and quite nicely layedout (i.e. Good ergonomics). It sits comfortably on my lap, is lightweight without being flimsy and its base is very easy to grasp. I haveevery confidence it will not break easily.Overall, I'm encouraged. Ihate clutter and the lack of one more cable on my desktop makes mehappy.
Of course, if I keep getting lit up, it'll be back to theSidewinder, but for now I'm working on it.Sturdy, Agile, Cordless - it's simply the best!I purchased the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick, and it is not as great as it seems. I was very interested in purchasingthe Logitech Freedom 2.4 Cordless Joystick because of the way itlooked, and the fact that it is cordless! There were no reviews onAmazon.com, so I was a bit uncertain about this joystick, and went withMicrosofts joystick. I came across a review on the Logitech Freedom2.4 Cordless Joystick in Maximum PC magazine. The only drawback forthis joystick was the fact that it relied on AA batteries (because it iscordless), which do not provide enough juice for the force feedbackeffects.
So if youre not into that much force feedback, then this isthe joystick for you. I thought that Id post a review for thisjoystick for people to decide whether or not to get this joystick oversome of the other ones. Here is the review from the magazine:LogitechFreedom 2.4 Cordless Joystick: Sturdy, agile, cordless its simplythe best. Odds are that every Maximum PC reader has the same problem:thanks to all the gamepads, mice, keyboards, digital cameras, speakers,MP3 players, and networking equipment youve got hooked up, theres arats nest of wires behind your PC.
Wireless peripherals are theobvious solution, but no hardcore gamer would trust his onlinereputation to a flaky wireless joystick, would he?But what if thestick wasnt flaky? Weve been using the Logitech Freedom 2.4 CordlessJoystick for about a month now, and from a reliability standpoint, itsvirtually indistinguishable from a weird joystick. Its 2.4GHz wirelessconnection to your PC is every bit as responsive and sensitive as thecable that gets wrapped around your chair and trips you when you standup.Because its wireless, the Freedom 2.4 relies on three AAbatteries for power and they dont provide enough juice for forcefeedback effects, so you can cross that feature off your list (anon-issue for the many people who just dont care for force feedback). The good news is that the batteries provide a sturdy ballast for thebase and prevent it from sliding around on most desks. We wereespecially impressed with the three-axis stick itself.
It sports sixbuttons, including the trigger and an eight-way hat switch. All thebuttons are easily accessible, even for a gamer with unusual hands(large, small, it doesnt matter). Along with an analog throttle, thereare four more buttons on the sticks base. This is the perfectstick for the casual joystick gamer. Anyone who likes to hop into aSpitfire in Battlefield 1942, play an occasional round of CrimsonSkies, or enjoy space-based slaughter in Independence War will findthis stick to be perfectly suitable. That said, Flight-Sim fanaticswill be better served by picking up a more realistic controller withmore buttons and hat switches.Pros: A great wireless joystick with more than enough options for any arcade-style flyer.Cons: Wireless design precludes force feedback. Not optimal for hardcore flight sims.WIRELESS DREAM!This product is one of the first well made wireless joysticks i haveever used. The actual joystick uses a great blend of comfort andabilities.
Most good joysticks now days tend to have lots of buttons butlack in there general comfort. This stick is capable of almost all ofthe great features of some of the other $100-$200 sticks and still isable to make long term gaming a breeze and greatly improve not only thestick but the game its self. Now you can't forget the fact that thelogitec wingman is cordless this means that when it is time to put itaway for other games that don't use the joystick you are able to move itquickly with out making your clean computer area look cluttered and nothaving to unplug any cords.Pros/Cons:Pro's-5 star Comfort-Good stick options (including side2side turning and throttle)-It's WIRELESSCon's-Bad set up program-5th button weirdly placedGREAT JOB LOGITEC!!

The ergonomic design and placement of the 10 buttons (4 on the base, 6 on the handle) allow easy access for big or small hands. A throttle wheel and an eight-way directional hat switch top off the comprehensive controls. The handle also rotates to serve as a rudder control.
Left-handed users will feel left out, however; the stick is designed for righties only. The stick feels tight and controlled, with superb response time. On our test unit, however, one of the base buttons malfunctioned after about a month of heavy use.In our replacement unit, a different button became sticky after roughly the same period of intense play. The unit comes bundled with a USB receiver that transmits on the 2.4GHz channel within approximately a 20-foot radius-far enough for any reasonable play scenario. Logitech Freedom 2.4 Joystick ProblemThree AA batteries provide power; Logitech estimates at least 50 hours of life per set, a claim that we found to be accurate.
